I provide regular Singing for Wellbeing (often referred to as “Singing with Naomi”) sessions for Rose Lodge Care Home, Brandon House Care Home, and Fernihurst Nursing Home in Exmouth. These settings provide specialist care for individuals living with dementia.
Singing for Wellbeing is a positive way of promoting health and wellbeing for individuals living in residential care settings.
Sessions are designed to encourage and enable individual group members to engage and participate in the music as far as possible whatever their ability: they may sing along, move to the music, play a percussion instrument, or simply listen.
To make sessions as accessible as possible I select familiar and well-loved songs with memorable melodies and lyrics. I endeavour to connect with individual group members throughout the session: this may include occasional chat between songs, regular eye contact, gestural and verbal encouragement, offering song choices and also giving the option of choosing and playing a percussion instrument from the selection provided.
