Music Tuition

With apologies, I have no available spaces at present, as I balance my teaching practice with my role as a singing for wellbeing leader and as a parent.  I’m afraid I am unable to operate a waiting list for spaces due to demand and being slightly overstretched already! If you or your child are keen to learn a new instrument, please do take a look at the noticeboard at Exmouth Library and at both of which provide details of a number other local teachers.

I teach piano, violin, singing, guitar and music theory tuition to children and adults, both from my home in Exmouth and at Bassetts Farm Primary School. I offer patient, friendly, tailored tuition with the option of supporting pupils to take graded exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

Teaching style

My approach to teaching is pupil-centred: I am committed to teaching each unique individual in the way that will best help them to learn and develop as a musician. To me, it is essential that learning an instrument is enjoyable and rewarding. Therefore I always strive to provide a lesson structure and repertoire that the adult or child I am working with is able to enjoy and feel motivated by. There are many different learning styles: for example some work well with a goal such as an exam to prepare for, while others prefer to play a range of music at their own pace, simply for pleasure. Many struggle with learning to read music, but learn quickly by ear. While this requires more planning and preparation, it is worth it to see learners of all ages accomplish what they may not have believed possible. I look forward immensely to seeing how all of my pupils progress and develop as confident musicians over the coming years.
